Mohammad Hosseini, the Director of Integrated Planning and a board member of the National Iranian Gas Company, stated: "The pricing system for energy tariffs needs to be reformed; this reform should primarily focus on major economic enterprises such as steel plants, iron smelters, cement factories, petrochemical plants, and others because the energy imbalance in Iran is growing."
According to the public relations report of the Central Council of the Building Engineering System Organization, during the first meeting of the Policy Council of the International Conference on Energy Optimization in Buildings and Related Industries hosted by the Building Engineering System Organization, Hosseini emphasized that there is no shortage of laws regarding energy optimization, but unfortunately, significant practical outcomes are lacking in this area. He stated: "It must be carefully analyzed and investigated why laws are written but not applied. However, one of the main reasons for this trend is that the energy tariffs are almost free."
He continued: "Currently, the gas tariff provided to commercial units is about 500 tomans per cubic meter, and for residential units, it's 6,000 tomans; this is while the average rate per cubic meter of gas for export is about 30 cents. Both productive and non-productive units expect to continue benefiting from heavy gas subsidies, even though the reserves of the South Pars gas field are not infinite."
Hosseini added, "We have currently delivered 75 billion cubic meters of gas to power plants. The pricing system for energy carriers needs to be reformed; this reform should be centered around major economic enterprises such as steel plants, iron smelters, cement factories, petrochemical plants, and others because the energy imbalance in Iran is increasing, and these large economic enterprises should bear the cost of correcting the energy imbalance since their profit margins are largely due to the low cost of the energy they use."
The Director of Integrated Planning at the National Iranian Gas Company mentioned: "The country's gas production capacity is limited. The outcomes of this conference need to be closely monitored, and the results of the implemented actions should be reviewed."
